Linseed oil & spontaneous combustion

Hope there aren't quotas for blessings/miracles. If so, we used one up today. After spending the morning sanding wood patio chairs we lovingly wiped them down with linseed oil. We left the work materials on the patio table so we could give them one more wipe down during the afternoon when the sun wasn't as harsh. We then took Hannah and Nikki to the community pool for some sun and swimming. About two hours later we came home for Hannah's nap and lunch--a rehash (albeit delicious) of last night's dinner. Well here's where we knew God sent us home at the time he did...WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF COMING HOME we noticed smoke from the patio table...rushed outside to find the linseed oil rags aflame--smoke and flames dancing with reckless abandon...along with the sandpaper, plastic bags, and the large bag of rags we just bought. Thankfully we had an all purpose fire extinguisher and the dry material quickly smothered the flames. While the boys were home, they wouldn't have noticed the fire outside and the table would have been totally consumed and who knows what else. Thank you LORD for sending us home and sparing more damage than was done. We learned a valuable lesson about linseed oil spontaneous combustion and your guidance over our daily life. jose & dg

spring

Spring snaps with the most absolute vibrant colors: the hues here captured in front of the church. Take some time to visit the garden in front. Life pushes energetically from the ground displaying her unflinching beauty all in quiet yet unashamed testimony to the Giver of life reminding us from whom we have the privilege of enjoying the beauty of life around us.

agape feast - april 28

Burbank SDA church hosts an Agape feast this coming Friday evening, the 28th of April. The Agape feast was the Eucharistic or communion--celebration of early Christians. While centered on the ritual of the bread and wine, it also included various other ritual elements. Agape is one of the Greek words for love, particularly applied to selfless love. Such meals were widespread, though not universal, in the early Christian world. Some contemporary Christians participate in Agape meals on rare occasions, to experience this historical form of the Eucharist. Many Christians, however, after celebrating the Eucharist, now routinely participate in a sharing of light refreshments and conversation in an informal gathering that is functionally an Agape.

worship

what's your point of view on worship or any aspect of it? worship is a very personal experience. i believe that how you approach worship depends largely on your relationship with God. do you see Him as a stiff, formal, and maybe pompous ruler posting edicts from a high and detached throne? or do you see him as a loving, caring older brother or sister, or a mentor, one with whom you can unfold and share your thoughts, anxieties, and unspokens? that view i believe, carries out to how you accept or reject the practice of church worship services, the music; how you dress; the various rituals of worship. please comment and dialogue.

kelly Z's Baby Shower

April 2, 2006: A lot of love for one of our own. Pam organized an afternon tea and with Tracy's creativity transformed the fellowship room into a spring garden. There was an abundance of exquisite and delectable treats!
